The first thing you should do is work towards removing some blind spots that can be doors or sharp corners that exit and not roadways. For you to physically separate vehicles and people where absolutely possible, use pedestrian barriers near the doors and the main staff walkways. Make sure to use some zebra crossings where people will cross vehicle routes and also clearly mark where there are any pedestrian walkways for the sake of operational needs within the warehouse floor and within the yard.

 

Be absolutely sure that you have vehicles and people are separated where vehicle routes become narrow or where there are some entrances to the warehouse. Make sure that you use a vehicle entrance and a pedestrian entrance since these places are very prone of very high risks. Also, make sure that there is a lot of adequate light. There should be enough warning signs for fork lift trucks that are in operation and also for moving vehicles on all the entrances that lead to the operational areas.

All the staff there should be trained staff so make sure that you look at this and confirm that it is so. In the areas where there is a movement of vehicles being seen, be sure to ensure that every visitor and every staff has worn his or her high visibility jacket. This is also inclusive of the main warehouse basically because of the movement of the fork lift trucks. Another thing that you should ensure is that warning signs that belong to vans and owned lorries are working, that vans and owned lorries have reversing alarms and that's all vehicles are maintained basically.

 

There is a very high risk area that is the dock doors. What you will need to do here is to make sure that there is a full safe system of work that is developed in this area. This will normally be in order to keep people as far as possible from this area because of the risks that are brought about by the reversing of cars here with escape areas.
